As a senior member of the Case Management Services practice, Steve specializes in assisting clients in the increasingly complex world of e-Discovery. Steve’s experience in project management, process design, e-Discovery review technology and statistical sampling analyses provides clients with valuable expertise in high-risk, high profile regulatory and/or litigation engagements.
Steve’s 17 years assisting counsel and corporations in various regulatory and litigation matters provides a deep understanding of the discovery process, from the initial issuance of litigation holds through the preservation, collection, processing, review and production of electronic and hard-copy documents. His experience offers clients a unique approach to e-Discovery, beyond an emphasis on processing and filtering data. For example, his approach in advising clients regarding the most optimal technology tools as well as implementing the appropriate levels of project management, quality control and statistical testing procedures prior to producing documents to regulators or opposing counsel results in managing the various risks inherent in large-scale discovery matters.
Steve’s engagements have included some of the largest and notable regulatory and litigation matters in the U.S. For example, he assisted AT&T Corp. with the collection, processing, review and production of documents to the DOJ and FCC in the Hart-Scott-Rodino regulatory review of the merger with SBC Communications. The engagement involved approximately 400 attorneys conducting document review, one of the largest discovery projects in the U.S. In addition, Steve led an engagement team assisting an insurance company and its counsel in the industry-wide investigation by various state attorney generals into alleged bid rigging and contingent commission practices. Using a “conceptual” searching technology combined with statistical testing, the engagement eliminated traditional attorney document review, thereby saving the client millions of dollars in attorney review costs.
