Matt is a Managing Director and Retail Practice leader. He also co-leads the firm’s Global Private Equity practice. He is a specialist in retailing, merchandising and supply chain improvement and has global in-depth experience with retailers and suppliers of consumer products. With more than 19 years in retail and consulting, his breadth of functional work ranges from strategic planning to operational enhancement. Matt leads clients through organizational restructuring, process re-engineering, and boosting retail operations with dramatic improvements in merchandising and supply chain management.
Prior to joining AlixPartners, Matt was a Principal with Kurt Salmon Associates and led KSA’s North American Merchandise Planning, Inventory Management and Organizational Design Practice. He also led KSA’s East Coast Private Equity team and was a member of KSA’s Global Private Equity Steering Committee. In that role, he led winning due diligence teams and successful turnaround efforts, creating net profit improvement, freeing cash flow and enhancing organizational capacity.

- Freeing organizational capacity by redesigning accountabilities and measures and creating role clarity. He relies on in-depth strategic experience and retail know-how to create plans with realizable targets and winning formulas. As a merchandise operations and supply chain expert, he is able to assess redundancies and eliminate inefficiencies, which improve operational effectiveness and overall business performance.
- Improving client performance in inventory management and merchandise/assortment planning resulting in improved product flow and revenue growth. He developed programs, tools and approaches for merchant teams, and he educates and implements successful inventory management programs. His results include customer-aligned assortments, improved product flows, fiscally-disciplined inventory controls, higher service levels and turnover.
- Driving clients to embrace new solutions, redefine relationships and create new business models with breakthrough thought-leadership. This type of work draws heavily on change management, process improvement and delivery of quantifiable improvements.
Prior to consulting, Matt worked in retailing for nine years where he led expansion/consolidation efforts, developed store-line strategies, assessed information systems and managed Controller Office operations for a multi-billion dollar retailer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts.
