Over the last 17 years, Joachim has developed and helped execute growth strategy, performance improvement, working capital reduction, and post-merger integration (PMI) projects with a particular focus on consumer goods, retail and wholesale, industrial goods, and private equity. He returned to Europe in 2005 after two years in the Dallas office of AlixPartners and is coordinating the establishment of a Nordic practice for the firm.
Some of his recent projects at AlixPartners include:
- Identifying working capital reduction potential for a leading Scandinavian utility company
- Assisting a full-line IT distributor with worldwide sales of $20 billion in turning around its EMEA business and coordinating AlixPartners teams in the Nordics, Germany, Italy, and Dubai respectively
- Coordinating the carve-out, restructuring, and divestiture of a cluster of Northern European plants from a globally leading flexible packaging company with sales of €1.4 billion
- Conducting several successful commercial due diligences and developing a North American organic growth strategy for the worldwide leader in sports utility transportation
- Helping a regional 850-store pharmacy retailer in the US reduce inventory while improving out-of-stock
Prior to joining AlixPartners in early 2003, Joachim served as an executive search consultant in the Copenhagen office of Egon Zehnder International. While with Egon Zehnder, he was responsible for the Consumer & Retail Practice Group in Scandinavia and was a core member of the global Consumer & Retail and Private Capital teams.
Formerly, Joachim worked for seven years with The Boston Consulting Group in Stockholm, Oslo, and Toronto. As a senior manager, Joachim was co-responsible for the Nordic Consumer & Retail Practice Group and global topic leader for Promotion Effectiveness. Prior to obtaining his MBA in 1994, Joachim worked with Unilever Foods in Sweden and Norway in sales, marketing, logistics and finance. He began his career as a production engineer with Sandvik Steel in Sweden.
Joachim holds a Master of Business Administration degree from INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France (Dean’s List period I&II), and a Master of Science degree in industrial engineering and management from Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden, where he received the John Ericsson Medal Award for outstanding achievement (top 2%). In addition he is a 1st Lieutenant and Intelligence Officer in the Swedish Airborne Rangers. He speaks Scandinavian, English, French, Italian, German and Russian.
