Giancarlo Poli

Giancarlo Poli is a senior member of AlixPartners' Performance Improvement Practice. With 13 years of consulting experience, primarily dedicated to leading strategic, organizational and performance improvement initiatives in the automotive, industrial goods and consumer goods industries, Giancarlo has a proven track record in driving and achieving tangible results.

Based in Milan, Italy, Giancarlo is currently working with major industrial companies to help them achieve extremely challenging targets on cost reduction, and also in redefining and implementing their strategic approach to the market.

Prior to joining AlixPartners, Giancarlo served as a Vice President and was a core member of the Automotive and Aerospace practice at A.T. Kearney. Previously, he was at The Boston Consulting Group, where he played a key role in the development of the Industrial Goods and Operational Effectiveness Practices.

Giancarlo has held several leadership roles, both in developing and managing key client relationships and in organizing and implementing several firm building and people development activities. His main experiences have included:

  • Led the overall turnaround of a leading motorcycle manufacturer, spanning throughout all company activities and functions, achieving cost reductions in excess of 10 cost structure points and recovering profitability in less than 18 months.
  • Designed and led a comprehensive performance improvement project for a leading powertrain manufacturer, aimed at 10% cost savings in 24 months, overachieving target every year.
  • Defined and led a turn-around plan for a major food producer, involving organizational right-sizing, plant closures and down-sizing and logistic network full redesign.
  • Redesigned the commercial and marketing organization of a global Automotive OEM, achieving both higher market focus and efficiency improvement in the range of 25%.
  • Redesigned the overall supply chain of several OEMs in different industries including but not limited to appliances, motorcycles, automotive, and consumer goods; achieving outstanding working capital reduction targets, up to 50%, and improving service level at the same time.

In his activity at A.T. Kearney, Giancarlo has received awards for the highest quality of client delivery and for the professional development of his teams.

Giancarlo began his career as a manufacturing process engineer with IBM and served as a business analyst at McKinsey & Co.

Giancarlo holds an MBA degree from INSEAD, Fontainebleau (F) and a Bachelor's degree in industrial technology engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan, with honors. He is fluent in Italian, English and French.
