Michael Baur

Michael Baur is an experienced business advisor and executive manager in corporate restructuring and turnarounds with expertise in accounting, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, cost management and financial restructuring. He has led several large scale restructuring projects in the media, consumer electronics, IT hard- and software, retail, automotive and engineered-products industries.

Michael served as the interim group treasurer and group controller of KarstadtQuelle AG, a €14 billion retail group based in Germany, in the critical restructuring phase between September 2004 and June 2005.

Prior to joining AlixPartners, Michael was a board member, COO, and CFO of edel Music AG, a stock-quoted German media group. He joined edel Music at the beginning of 2002 in a critical situation and was able to help the company avoid insolvency. In 24 months, Michael transformed the company into a profitable one, with an EBIT increase of over €50 million. In the same period, the company’s bank liabilities were decreased by €160 million.

Before his work with edel Music, Michael was a partner at Roland Berger strategy consultants in the firm’s Restructuring Competency Center. He started his career with Arthur Anderson & Co., Munich, in the audit and corporate finance department.

He graduated from the University of Regensburg, Germany, where he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance.
