David is a Managing Director in AlixPartners’ Performance Improvement practice. He has over twenty years of industry and consulting experience in operations improvement across a wide range of industry sectors, including specialty chemicals, food and FMCG products, packaging, construction, pharmaceuticals, refining and petrochemicals, and high tech.
Example of his engagements include:
- Site operations improvement - programme of site operations improvement projects covering 43 factories in 25 countries worldwide, manufacturing flavours, fragrances, paint, adhesives, fibres and other specialty chemicals
- Manufacturing network optimisation - projects to rationalise West European and US manufacturing operations and transfer production to low cost countries, covering manufacturing strategy, network design and implementation support (e.g., for manufacturers of survival equipment, packaging, consumer goods, plastics and adhesives)
- Supply chain management and inventory reduction - programme for manufacturer of consumer goods to reduce inventory by 50% in end-to-end supply chain from suppliers to company-owned retail outlets by improving demand management, store replenishment process, supply chain planning and manufacturing reliability and responsiveness
- Working capital improvement - engagements covering management of inventory, debtors and creditors
- Maximising customer and product profitability - understanding and optimising the trade-offs between service level and cost-to-serve in order to maximise overall business profitability
- Purchasing cost reduction - projects from sourcing strategy to implementation, including supplier negotiations
- Overhead cost reduction - for a wide range of companies in sectors including food, retailing, packaging, high tech medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals and construction
- Post-merger integration - for two leading speciality chemicals companies with global sales and operations
Prior to joining AlixPartners, David spent six years with A.T. Kearney and three years with Coopers & Lybrand, focusing on manufacturing and supply chain improvement projects for clients with worldwide operations. His project experience includes Europe, USA, South America, Middle East and Asia. Before that, he held operations and business management roles with ICI, Zeneca and Phillips Imperial Petroleum.
David obtained an MA in engineering science from Oxford University and is a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
