Jan Kantowsky is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in the development and execution of strategic, operational, organizational and financial improvement initiatives for value creation, both in a corporate context as well as in an investment management environment. His background includes equity investments, mergers and acquisitions, post merger integration as well as financial and operational management roles.
Prior to joining AlixPartners, Jan headed the global equity investment program of Bertelsmann AG, Europe‘s largest media conglomerate. From 1997 to 2000, he served as CFO and COO of a leading listed IT services company in Europe. He was instrumental in the development and execution of a buy-and-build strategy aimed at European market leadership and the eventual exit of the corporate parent via an IPO. Relevant experience includes:
- Successful turnaround of a high profile consumer goods company as an interim manager (CFO)
- Development and implementation of substantial and sustainable working capital reduction initiatives in stressed/distressed situations
- Extensive due diligence, transaction structuring, negotiation and post-acquisition management work in several industries and sectors including consumer goods, engineering, heavy machinery, media, IT and waste management
- Portfolio restructuring of existing holdings with about 50 equity investments and successful divestment of multiple portfolio companies
- Multiple M&A transactions with subsequent comprehensive post-merger integration measures
Jan started his career with Bertelsmann AG, where he helped to formulate and execute Bertelsmann’s strategy in the role of Vice President-Corporate Development of New Media, reporting directly to the executive board.
Jan holds a PhD in business administration from the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and a diploma in business administration from Stuttgart University.
