As the senior member of the Information Management Services team in Europe, Steve specializes in assisting clients with complex data issues that are the foundation of many high-risk and high-profile litigation and regulatory matters. Whether the engagement involves E-disclosure issues or the analysis and/or creation of databases to support a claim, Steve’s 20 years of managing complex and high-risk matters provides clients with effective solutions for the identification, extraction, production and/or use of electronically stored information. He also has extensive experience in international engagements, including projects throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North America.
In E-discovery/disclosure matters, Steve’s significant hands-on experience on numerous multi-national engagements provides a deep understanding of the discovery process, from the initial issuance of litigation holds through the ultimate production of documents to opposing counsel. His experience assists clients in making informed and defensible decisions with respect to the overall discovery process, which has become more sophisticated with E.U. data privacy issues as well as the changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure in the U.S.. In addition, Steve’s knowledge of the review workflow and the mainline document review and hosting platforms enables clients to make optimal technology decisions for their particular situation, thereby managing risk, cost and time.
Steve also has experience assisting companies in designing and implementing litigation hold policies and procedures and implementing document management technology solutions for managing E-discovery. His experiences include working with IT, legal and various business groups to create data diagrams and perform data “mapping” of the various systems and database applications to allow the corporations to respond quickly and efficiently to identify, preserve and collect electronically stored information.
Steve’s experience also includes data analytics projects involving the determination of lost profits and economic damages in various types of disputes. His work has included engagements requiring the extraction of millions of records involving multiple years, developing methodologies for analyzing, parsing and manipulating the data set using various database tools (e.g., Access, SQL) and performing quality control tests to verify the results.
Prior to joining AlixPartners, Steve was a Managing Director at Navigant Consulting, Inc. and led the Midwest Discovery practice. He was also a member of the firm’s Management Committee. Prior to Navigant Consulting, Inc., Steve was a Principal with Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP.
He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Mississippi and a Masters in Business Administration with distinction from Tulane University. Steve is a Certified Management Accountant and a Certified Management Consultant and is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants and Institute of Management Consultants. Steve is also a member of Beecher Carlson’s Speaker’s Bureau that provides Institutional Shareholder Services approved training to corporate directors.
