John is a Managing Director in the turnaround and restructuring services practice, and has held officer and advisory roles in various large restructurings. He has over 10 years of experience in crisis management and business reorganizations, and has demonstrated expertise assisting companies with financial restructurings, operational improvement plans, asset sales and liquidity management. John has led the resolution of several challenging situations in a broad cross section of industries including real estate and homebuilding, financial services, manufacturing and consumer products, environmental services and telecommunications.
John’s engagement experience includes the following projects:
General Growth Properties, Inc. – Since late 2008, John has been acting as financial advisor to General Growth, a large real estate investment trust with over $27 billion in debt.
Levitt & Sons – John served as Executive Vice President – Restructuring to this Florida homebuilder during Chapter 11 where he was involved in all aspects of liquidity management, bank negotiations and asset sales for the company.
Other homebuilding industry experience – John has also served as an advisor to a major homebuilders in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions.
Parmalat USA – John assisted Parmalat executives in all key aspects of managing the restructuring process with a focus on liquidity management and business plan development. Actions contributed to successful reorganization of company.
Harnischfeger, Inc. – From 1999-2001, John served as Treasurer of this industrial machinery manufacturer with approximately $2 billion in revenue. Responsibilities included managing liquidity of a $1 billion revenue division in active liquidation and development of cash forecasting tools. John was also involved in key aspects of the acquisition of financing.
Safety-Kleen Corp. – Managed an accounts receivable department process improvement project resulting in collection of over $40 million of past due AR. Also played a key role in budget/plan development and acquisition of financing.
USN Communications – Developed cash forecasting tools and assisted in key aspects of asset sales and transitioning of key finance functions to buyer.
John served in a variety of operational and liquidity management roles at Refco, Inc, which, at the time of the engagement, was one of the nation’s largest independent futures brokerage firms. Specific activities included leading an international team of AlixPartners personnel in managing the cash, liquidity and sale/wind-down of key operations.
John earned a Master of Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Northwestern University.
