David has extensive experience in cash focused turnarounds, distressed M&A and business performance management. His skills include re-establishing management control through process management, creating accountability and predictability, improving profitability and cash flows through rapid decision making and rapid implementation of change.

He has significant experience in assessing strategic options, developing robust and achievable business plans and managing short-term liquidity during periods of crisis. David possesses a strong record of building stakeholder consensus for operational and financial restructuring plans. He has also taken interim roles with full accountability for functional leadership and the implementation of operational and financial restructuring.

Prior to joining AlixPartners, he held restructuring roles in industry at Cable & Wireless and Global Crossing Europe.

David’s client experience includes:


Liquidity management for a pan-European turn-key powerplant contractor to stabilise the business during tight liquidity and losses.
  • Implemented a project control system to establish accountability for project profitability and cash flows within project operations
  • Implemented cash management planning systems to manage tight liquidity and re-established bonding lines


Court-based reorganisation/ restructuring of Saab Automobile, carve out from General Motors and sale to Spyker Cars.

  • Developed a business plan for a stand-alone niche car company and structured a sale transaction recapitalisation with GM
  • Managed the corporate finance activities for Saab working with GM’s investment bank and acted as Interim CFO following the reorganisation


Project management of an accelerated $1.5 Bn carve-out of a multinational semi-conductor business in twelve weeks.

  • Carved out the fully integrated operations and established transition services to enable a stand-alone JV to operate using parent’s systems


Financial restructuring of MFI Furniture Group Plc and the creation of Galiform Plc.

  • Refinancing completed in nine weeks with an innovative security structure. Disposal of retail business and the creation of the re-focused Galiform Plc. Interim Group FC for the retained restructured business


David holds a bachelor of engineering (hons) degree in civil engineering from the University of Bristol. He worked as an engineer and project manager for Balfour Beatty International on turnkey contracts for power stations and desalination plants before changing career to focus on finance and turnaround.

David is a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) and an accredited Member of the Institute for Turnaround. He won the IFT’s “Turnaround Rising Star” award in 2009 for his work at Saab Automobile.
