Rob is the leader of the firm's Financial Advisory Services practice in Asia. He has over 30 years of experience in banking and financial consulting, and specializes in forensic accounting, litigation support and distressed debt turnaround. Rob has worked in Asia for most of his career and has extensive regional experience. His forensic accounting experience includes investigations into white collar crime, corruption particularly in the context of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and money laundering. Litigation support matters have related to joint venture and family disputes, as well as anti-money laundering. He also has significant experience in leading financial restructuring projects, both in the role of the lender and as an advisor. Rob's investigative experience covers a wide range of industries, but in particular he has worked in the banking, pharmaceutical and manufacturing sectors.
Rob's career has got him involved or leading a number of significant investigation, litigation and distressed debt assignments. A few highlights include:
Led accounting and fraud/anti-fraud related engagements on behalf of the boards of directors of Johnson Controls, Daimler Chrysler, Siemens, Tyco, Emerson, and Astra Zeneca, amongst others.
Served as the lead advisor to a group of 18 banks involved in the distribution of Lehman Minibonds in their public and high profile negotiations with the Hong Kong Government over a mandated buy back from the public by the banks of their holding of Minibonds.
Acted as money laundering expert witness for the US DoJ and assisted the Hong Kong DoJ in successful convictions of six individuals charged in a US$400million money laundering case related to theft from Bank of China.
Led the team, either as creditor or advisor in the successful workout of various Hong Kong and Chinese companies, including Regal Group, Lai Sun Development, TSL Jewellery, Charoen Pokphand, OOCL and various mainland Chinese window companies and trust and investment companies (ITIC's).
Rob holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Business Economics and Accountancy from Southampton University. He is an associate with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a fellow of the Hong Kong Society of Accountants and board member of the Hong Kong Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He is a past chairman of the Hong Kong Lenders' Group under INSOL International, and was chairman of the working committee that developed the Hong Kong Monetary Authority sponsored Hong Kong Approach to Corporate Difficulties. Prior to joining AlixPartners, Rob was on the international staff with HSBC for 18 years, and subsequently headed the Asian forensic and litigation support practice for Ernst & Young.
