Weyrich, Michael

Michael Weyrich is an experienced turnaround professional with 20 years of experience in leading multi-national turnaround and restructuring efforts, improving/restoring corporate performance, and M&A while working with the financial sponsors, boards of directors, and management of companies.

Before joining AlixPartners he was working within management consulting, finance and industry. He joined AlixPartners from the GSMA, the London-based global wireless industry association, where he was Chief Strategy and Development Officer responsible for a number of strategic initiatives involving the association’s more than 700 industry members.

Prior to that, he was a Senior Executive with Accenture (previously Andersen Consulting) in London. In that role, he was responsible for strategic planning, performance improvement, and turnaround initiatives for several Fortune 1000 companies, primarily within the high tech, telecoms, FMCG and industrial products sectors. Michael started his career within the Executive Office of Danisco Group, a global industrial group dealing with sugar, food ingredients and packaging.

He has also operated as an interim executive, held management positions within industry, and held a number of non-executive Board positions.

Examples of Michael’s experience include:

  • Chief Restructuring Officer in a $300M European FMCG company in charge of a radical change agenda and performance improvement program aimed at growing the top line and dramatically reducing the cost base of the business following an acquisition of the company. Worked directly for the two new private equity investors of the business.
  • Chief Turnaround Officer in a $1.6Bn private equity-backed global distributor of high-tech products and services responsible for reducing overall operating costs by $75M and supporting the repositioning of the business and growth of revenues. Worked directly for the Global and European CEOs, and was responsible for the improvement of the business across 8 geographies, working alongside local management teams to implement and deliver performance improvement initiatives.
  • Turnaround advisor to a leading Global automotive group co-leading the planning of the European turnaround effort and implementing a complex program involving multiple external stakeholders, supporting the development of a new business plan, securing new external financing, implementing several complex turnaround initiatives, and rolling out new cash planning and cash management processes across the group. Worked directly for the Global and European CEO’s/CFO’s of the business alongside the regional management teams.
  • Turnaround advisor to a $1.2Bn European based apparel company developing a comprehensive restructuring business plan, which included an analysis of offshore sourcing opportunities, dramatically reducing SG&A costs, implementing a complex social plan across key European geographies, and the reorganization of the head office.
  • Lead turnaround advisor for a Global communications group following its acquisition of a regional European telecommunications incumbent, responsible for repositioning the business for growing the top line, reducing group overhead costs, and revising key processes in customer service as well as sales and marketing. Worked directly for the CEO of the business alongside the divisional management team.
  • Lead strategic advisor to a leading Global FMCG company, in charge of a number of global performance improvement initiatives within the key food categories, leading to refocused marketing efforts, reduced costs and improved operational performance and returns.
  • Chief Marketing Officer at two newly set-up corporate ventures within a global investment bank as well as a regional European telecoms incumbent operator, overseeing the commercial activities as well as all aspects of the design, build and launch of these new business units.


Michael holds an MBA from J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management and Copenhagen Business School, as well as a BSc in Economics and Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School. He has lived and worked in the UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, China, and the US. His language skills include English, German, Swiss German, Danish, and conversational French.
