Hiu Man is a Director in the Economics Consulting practice at AlixPartners, and is based in Boston. She has over twenty years of experience assisting clients with antitrust and competition matters. 

Hiu Man uses her experience in industrial organization and econometrics to evaluate the competitive effects of mergers and acquisitions, firm conduct, and government policies for a broad range of products and industries. She has consulted on litigation matters involving monopolization and monopsonization, bundling and tying, market allocation, price fixing, predatory pricing, and price discrimination. Hiu Man has also consulted on matters involving the use of survey methodologies such as conjoint analysis.

Hiu Man holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University and a B.S.Sc. in Economics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Key Engagements:

  • Conducted economic analyses on behalf of Qualcomm, concerning liability issues in the antitrust lawsuits brought by Apple, the Federal Trade Commission, and the class plaintiffs relating to Qualcomm’s contracting and licensing practices.
  • Evaluated liability and class certification issues relating to Sutter Health’s systemwide contracting and anti-steering provision through economic modeling and empirical analysis of healthcare claims data on behalf of the class, Djeneba Sidibe et al.
  • Conducted economic analyses, including econometric analyses based on large databases, to address market definition and competitive effects in mergers involving a wide range of products and industries, including healthcare, pharmaceuticals, television networks, cable services, newspapers, rental cars, airlines, optical lenses, food and drink products, and personal products.
  • Assisted several pharmaceutical companies with economic analyses to address liability and damages issues concerning allegations of anticompetitive agreements and secondary patents that delayed or prevented generic entry.
  • Assisted the Government of Australia to defend the legal challenges at the World Trade Organization regarding the country’s Tobacco Plain Packaging legislation by analyzing the post-implementation effects of the legislation.
