1.PURPOSE
The purpose of this Policy and Environmental Management System (EMS) is to inform the
People of AlixPartners, LLP and all of its subsidiaries (collectively “AlixPartners” or “The Firm”) of the Firm’s commitment to environmental sustainability practices, and their role in an environmentally conscious workplace. Additionally, AlixPartners has created a systemic approach to sustainability through the deployment of an EMS which will follow the Environmental Protection Agency’s guidelines which include Plan, Do, Check, and Act.
2. SCOPE
This Policy applies to all Managing Directors and employees (collectively our “People”). People are expected to assist visitors to Firm offices in compliance with this policy.
3. POLICY
3.1. POLICY STATEMENT
AlixPartners is committed to responsible stewardship of the environment and management of systems/resources such that we have a positive impact on the environment, society, and economy. This Environmental Policy reflects our commitment to sustainability, continuous improvement, and collaborative environmental stewardship, both in our operations and in the work we do with clients. In addition, we encourage our stakeholders (AlixPartners People, suppliers, contractors, clients, etc.) to similarly behave in ways that support our vision for environmental sustainability practices.
The Firm is committed to the following policy objectives:
CLIMATE CHANGE AND CARBON REDUCTION GOALS
AlixPartners has been Carbon Neutral since 2019 and will continue to maintain its carbon neutrality on its path to Net Zero. As part of our commitment to addressing climate change, we:
- Commit to developing Science-Based Targets in alignment with a 1.5-degree Celsius pathway by 2035
- Commit to achieving Net Zero by 2050
- Aim to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 65% relative to 2022 levels through measures such as energy efficiency, facilities selection and external agreements
- Dedicate ourselves to reducing our Scope 3 emissions by over 65% relative to 2022 levels by 2035 through partnership with our key suppliers and clients
RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND EFFICIENCY
We aim to use resources responsibly and reduce waste through:
- Materials and waste: Reduce waste generation wherever practical
- Use energy responsibly – conserving energy and improving energy efficiency wherever practical and required by code – and prefer renewable energy when practical
- Carefully manage water consumption, especially at our offices located in areas of water scarcity
- Meet or exceed requirements for measurement and annual reporting under established guidelines/frameworks (such as GRI, CDP, and EcoVadis)
- Uphold commitments entered in, as a member of the UN Global Compact including annually achieving carbon neutrality through a combination of carbon reduction initiatives and offsets
- Make our People aware of our corporate environmental impacts, as well as the environmental management system that we operate within, and our guiding principles and trends
In addition, the Firm will endeavor to (as a minimum):
- Identify the significant aspects of our Greenhouse Gases (“GHG”) emissions (leased vehicles, travel, procurement) and identify ways to improve operational controls to potentially reduce GHG emissions in each category
- Conserve natural resources by reusing and recycling materials appropriately
- Implement energy efficient and environmentally sound solutions in our offices, such as use of eco-friendly floor covering, energy saving light systems and reusable utensils, tableware and drinkware
- Make conscious travel decisions considering the environmental impact of associated travel and alternatives thereto
- Consider opportunities for positive environmental impact in leasing decisions, with special consideration given to leasing space in facilities that are designed, constructed, and operated in accordance with generally accepted green building standards; and conduct renovation buildouts according to similar standards.
- Evaluate current and potential supplier qualifications with respect to their sustainability practices and share our sustainability requirements with major suppliers who have material impact on the environment.
3.2. INFORMATION, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING
We recognize that employee engagement is critical to meeting our environmental goals. All People will receive baseline training in ESG via the Firm’s annual CORE Training program to increase awareness and better understand sustainable practices.
Furthermore, for those People engaged in delivering sustainable solutions to our clients, external education opportunities will be offered.
3.3. ENGAGING IN POSITIVE ENVIRONMENTAL BEHAVIORS
It is expected that all People in the firm will comply with this Environmental Policy and any related firm policies and procedures to prevent/reduce negative environmental impacts and to promote positive environmental impacts within the AlixPartners workplace.
Additionally, using 2022 GHG baseline data, AlixPartners has set the following goals:
- Achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050
- Achieve reduction on internally tracked Key Performance Indicators (“KPI”) including tonnage per full-time employee (“FTE”) and $ of revenue
- Achieve 100% participation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (“ESG”) employee training within the Firm’s annual CORE Training program
- Achieve 100% renewable energy in our offices by 2035
We believe that collaboration is essential to achieving environmental goals. To that end, we are working with our key suppliers to:
- Comply with our Supplier Code of Conduct, which outlines specific environmental expectations
- Work with us to reduce emissions and improve resource efficiency
- Actively support our sustainability objectives by responding to reporting requests and aligning their activities with our goals
We see our greatest lever for impact on the environment as through our clients. We are committed to delivering services that will help our clients navigate challenges related to the disruption caused by climate change, while mitigating their footprint.
3.4. MEASUREMENT AND REPORTING
The measurement of Firmwide GHG emissions will be completed annually, at a minimum, based on available data and commitment to discover and report emissions as information/data becomes available. The findings of our annual data collection will be reported through the Firm’s annual Social Impact Report and on our website. Further, the AlixPartners ESG Team will report externally through platforms such as CDP and EcoVadis. All emissions calculations will be validated externally.
Any environmental incidents that occur on AlixPartners’ property must be reported to an Office Manager. The Office Manager will then record incident details, and report incidents to the GHG Measurement and Reporting Workstream lead via email at [email protected].
Anyone who has concerns about potential negative impacts of corporate activities on the environment, or suggestions for achieving positive impact, should submit information to the GHG Measurement and Reporting Team via e-mail at [email protected]. Concerns may also be reported confidentially and anonymously, where permitted by local law, via the AlixPartners internal reporting hotline at: www.AlixPartnersIntegrityLine.com
3.5. MONITORING/EVALUATING ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES
The GHG Measurement and Reporting Team will review the environmental management system and its performance, at least annually, with an emphasis on any necessary modifications and continual improvement. The GHG Measurement and Reporting Team will review all incident reports and submissions, quarterly or as needed.
This policy will be communicated internally during the hiring process and will be available on the firm server and/or on AlixHub for view.
We also require all People to complete our annual Compliance Training (“CORE Training” in which each employee certifies that they understand the Firm’s environmental objectives. They are made aware of the significant environmental aspects and related actual or potential environmental impacts associated with their work.
To help ensure continued relevance of this policy, the policy will be reviewed annually.
4. DEFINITIONS
4.1. NEGATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Any activity, item, or condition that can pose an environmental risk by function of use or misuse. The goal of this policy is to identify, evaluate and reduce or eliminate negative environmental impacts, and to promote positive environmental impacts.
4.2. ENVIRONMENTAL INCIDENT
Any incident that leads to a violation of Federal, State, or local environmental regulations, as well as any voluntary requirements to which the Firm subscribes.
4.3. WORKPLACE OR OFFICE SPACE
Any space/property controlled by AlixPartners, for conducting business and/or providing services to clients.
5. RESPONSIBILITIES
5.1. GHG MEASUREMENT AND REPORTING TEAM
The GHG Measurement and Reporting Team will be led by the Director of Real Estate and Facilities, and report to the ESG Steering Committee which is accountable to the CEO and chaired by a senior Managing Director, our Global Vice Chair of Revenue. The responsibility of the GHG Measurement and Reporting Team is to (i) implement and track status of self-assessments for GHG emissions; (ii) provide input and feedback to the Office Managers as policies and procedures are developed, training needs are identified, and incident reports are completed; and to (iii) lead special environmental projects and initiatives, as needed. The GHG Measurement and Reporting Team will meet at least quarterly.
5.2. OFFICE MANAGERS
The responsibility of the Office Managers is to (i) serve as the first point of contact for receiving and sharing environmental concerns within their respective offices; (ii) report incidents; (iii) assist with the mitigation of environmental concerns in their workspace; and to (iv) communicate environmental information to their assigned office and liaise with local market Sustainability Champion Leadership.
5.3. PEOPLE
The responsibility of AlixPartners People is to (i) adhere to this Environmental Management Policy and any regional procedures; and to (ii) generally engage in behaviors and practices that promote positive environmental impact.
5.4 LOCAL SUSTAINABILITY CHAMPIONS
The responsibility of Local Sustainability Champions is to (i) support the environmental needs of their teams and staff, including reporting of environmental incidents; (ii) raise identified environmental concerns to the GHG Measurement and Reporting Team;(iii) identify and communicate needs around training, education, or information; (iv) coordinate local initiatives to reduce GHG emissions and support positive local sustainability practices; and (v) model positive environmental management practices.
6. DOCUMENT REVIEW
This Policy will be reviewed at least annually.
7. ENFORCEMENT
The Firm will take prompt and appropriate corrective action when it determines that a violation of this Policy or EMS has occurred. Corrective action may include but not be limited to training, education, best practice sharing, or removal of environmental hazard.
