AlixPartners expands roster of former SEC Enforcement Accountants in its Investigations, Compliance & Privacy practice

NEW YORK, (November 14, 2022) - AlixPartners, the global consulting firm, today announced the addition of Justin Sutherland, expanding its Investigations, Compliance & Privacy team, which now includes five former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Enforcement Division Accountants. Justin, previously a Senior Advisor to the Enforcement Division Chief Accountant, joins Matt Jacques, Susan Markel, Brad Mroski, and Jim Barratt—all of whom served in senior roles in the SEC’s Enforcement Division.

Justin brings to AlixPartners 18 years of experience as an auditor, forensic accountant, and regulator. As a Senior Advisor at the SEC, he helped manage Enforcement’s Office of Chief Accountant during the gap between Chief Accountants and worked on national priority areas, including market volatility, SPACs, and auditor independence; as well as working with the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) on standards setting.  He was instrumental in the SEC’s 2020 updates to the auditor independence rules and worked on numerous matters involving accounting, auditing, insider trading, market manipulation, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), and money laundering. He has experience working with groups inside and outside the Commission, including various Department of Justice (DOJ) offices, Main Justice, PCAOB, SEC’s Office of Chief Accountant, and Corporation Finance. Justin began his career in the audit practice at a global accounting firm where he became a manager. He received MS and BS degrees in Accounting from Brigham Young University.
