Andrej Danis, TMT Partner & Managing Director, discusses M&A in the fiber industry and findings from the AlixPartners Fiber Survey
In the fibre-broadband industry, the expectations of operators and investors are diverging sharply. A survey by AlixPartners found that while 44% of investors view construction-complexity as one of the biggest sector worries, only 20% of operators agree — instead, 47% of operators are concerned about competition from fixed-wireless access and cable, and 64% are worried about declines in average revenue per user (ARPU).
According to Andrej Danis, partner and managing director at AlixPartners: “The operators see the problem is competition … Operators know their markets. If they tell you that cable and fixed wireless is a competition, then believe them.” He also noted that, “There are increasingly less places for operators to deploy fiber and profitably grow.”
