AlixPartners earns the Human Rights Campaign “Equality 100 Award”

04 December 2023

The firm earned a top score in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2023-2024 Corporate Equality Index

NEW YORK (December 4, 2023)— AlixPartners, the global consulting firm, proudly announced that for the sixth year in a row it has earned the top ranking on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s 2023 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). This Equality 100 Award is the highest score an inclusive company can receive.  AlixPartners joins the ranks of 545 major U.S. businesses that also earned top marks this year.

CEI is a national benchmarking survey that evaluates the LGBTQ-related corporate policies and practices of more than 1,000 companies, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive healthcare benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBTQ+ community. As an employer who earned the Equality 100 Award, AlixPartners continues to be among the ranks of companies who are leaders in LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion. .”

In 2023 AlixPartners aligned with vendors to support LGBTQ+ employee recruitment and the selections of certified LGBTQ+ suppliers through a new diversity focused procurement process. The firm, in partnership with its PrideMatters Employee Resource Group, also sponsored LBGTQ+ events with organizations such as Out & Equal and ROMBA, and contributed charitable efforts to organizations such as Affirmations, Ruth Ellis Center, and OnePulse. In June, the firm’s People Team released an LGBTQ+ Benefits Guide for its US employees and Global Workplace Gender Inclusion Support Guidelines, a new resource for those who choose to transition at AlixPartners.

“We continually update our policies, benefits, and practices in ways that best serve the LGBTQ+ community across our global firm,” said Simon Freakley, CEO of AlixPartners. “Inclusion, diversity, and mutual respect are foundational values in our firm and support our ability to deliver excellent results for our clients. We are committed to creating a workplace environment where the LGBTQ+ community is welcome.”

“Our commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community is shared across AlixPartners by both members and allies,” added Kelly Thompson, a Vice President at AlixPartners and PrideMatters ERG Global Leader. “By focusing on building safe places for dialogue, establishing resources, and connecting with external partners and our communities, we see the significantly positive impact that inclusivity among colleagues can have on both personal and firmwide performance.”

The results of the 2023-2024 CEI showcase how U.S.-based companies are promoting LGBTQ+ friendly workplace policies in the U.S. and abroad. The first year of the CEI included 319 participants, and the 2023-2024 CEI now includes 1,384 participants; further demonstrating the tremendous trajectory of the CEI, a record-breaking 1,340 businesses have non-discrimination protections specific to gender identity, up from just 17 in 2002. These critical non-discrimination protections cover 21 million employees in the U.S. and around the globe. AlixPartners’ efforts in satisfying all the CEI’s criteria earned a score of 100 and the designation as recipient of the Equality 100 Award: Leader in LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion.

Inclusion and diversity are fundamental to AlixPartners’ core values. In addition to the policies and procedures reviewed by HRC, AlixPartners encourages team members from across the firm’s global footprint to participate in Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). AlixPartners’ ERGs lead with the voices and identities of employees across the firm to drive inclusivity through every area of business and foster a culture of belonging that perpetuates a sense of pride. Today, over 65% of employees participate in our ERGs.

The CEI rates employers providing these crucial protections to over 20 million U.S. workers and an additional 18 million outside of the U.S. Companies rated in the CEI include Fortune magazine’s 500 largest publicly traded businesses, American Lawyer magazine’s top 200 revenue-grossing law firms (AmLaw 200), and hundreds of publicly and privately held mid- to large-sized businesses.

The CEI rates companies on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars:

  • Non-discrimination policies across business entities;
  • Equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families;
  • Supporting an inclusive culture; and,
  • Corporate social responsibility.
