Dan Berman is a Partner in the Investigations, Disputes & Advisory Services practice at AlixPartners. With more than 28 years of experience, Dan is a highly accomplished forensic accountant, investigator, and accounting standards expert. He spent seven years as a Senior Enforcement Accountant at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), where he conducted a wide range of financial reporting and fraud investigations.
Dan specializes in white-collar criminal and civil defense and has been involved with some of the largest and highest profile defense matters to date. Dan also leads forensic accounting investigations and consults on matters involving complex accounting, auditing, financial reporting, and fraud issues. His background includes roles as a forensic accountant at international consulting firms and as a financial statement auditor with a global public accounting firm.
During his tenure in the SEC’s Philadelphia Regional Office, Dan planned, designed, and executed financial reporting investigations of private and public companies. He reviewed numerous accounting and disclosure issues across topics such as revenue recognition, impairments, and non-GAAP metrics. He also investigated auditors’ compliance with professional standards and regularly collaborated with staff from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB).
Dan began his career at Arthur Andersen in the Audit practice, specializing in technology company audits, before transitioning to Andersen’s Litigation Consulting practice, where he helped lead large accounting and auditor defense matters.
