Daniel Mikkelsen brings more than 25 years of experience advising leading financial institutions on strategy, risk & compliance, transformation, cost, M&A, restructuring, organizational effectiveness, sustainability, and digital & analytics. Over the course of his career, he has worked with 30 of the world’s top 50 banks – as well as many insurers, asset and wealth managers, and PE firms – helping executive teams to navigate complex challenges, improve performance, and deliver sustainable results. Having supported clients across the U.K. and Europe, the U.S., Canada, Brazil, the Middle East, Eastern and Southern Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia, and Japan, his work is truly global.
A proven builder of businesses, Daniel has founded and led six practice groups over the past 12 years, including a large-scale Sustainable Finance practice. His entrepreneurial track record includes helping to build the world’s largest carbon market, a fintech company, and a sustainable construction business. He currently serves on the advisory boards of two scale-up firms.
Before joining AlixPartners, Daniel worked as a Senior Partner in McKinsey’s Financial Services practice for more than 11 years. He joined McKinsey from Oliver Wyman, where he worked as a Consultant and Partner in their Financial Services practice for more than 13 years.
Daniel holds BA, MA and MPhil degrees in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University, as well as a diploma in Mathematics & Statistics from the Open University. He speaks English, Danish and German.
