Natalie Butcher is a Partner in the eDiscovery practice at AlixPartners, based in London. She has more than 20 years of hands-on expertise in forensic technology and electronic discovery, and is known for delivering complex disclosures that leverage advanced data analytics to unlock insights for clients.
Natalie advises corporate clients and law firms on multijurisdictional disclosure matters across the legal, regulatory, and investigative landscapes, leading engagements end-to-end from scoping matters and preserving data through to production and trial support. She has experience working with regulators, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Financial Conduct Authority, the Financial Reporting Council and the Competition and Markets Authority.
Natalie holds a Batchelor of Science degree in Information Technology, Business Management and Language as well as being a Relativity Certified Administrator and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. As a recognized market expert, Natalie also speaks regularly at industry events.
Representative experience:
- Managed a breach response matter for a global marketing corporation. Exfiltrated data from three jurisdictions was searched, using a combination of keywords and regular expressions, to identify documents likely to contain personally identifiable information (PII).
- Assisted with an investigation for a UK charity which was divesting a profitable part of their business. The value of the business was compromised by a member of the management team joining one of the potential buyers, together with key employees and contractors. Our work allowed the charity to pursue a legal claim against the potential buyer.
- Managed a large electronic disclosure case for an investment bank. The case was active for over four years and involved over two terabytes of data from a variety of sources. In addition to the High Court litigation for which we were engaged, the data became subject to an SEC investigation, meaning multiple parties required access to review and produce the data for different purposes, necessitating strict security controls. We were also responsible for producing trial bundles and worked closely with Opus2 to facilitate urgent updates to Magnum throughout the trial.
- Completed an expeditious electronic disclosure matter for what was then the Competition Commission, prior to an acquisition in the communications sector. I worked closely with the economics experts and utilized visual text analytics tools to interrogate the data, completing the project within the four-day deadline.
