Ben is a senior economist who advises firms on competition and regulatory matters. He has over 15 years of experience, particularly in relation to mergers, market investigations, and competition litigation. This includes advising on dozens of UK mergers during both phase one and phase two (from ambient cakes, to online blinds and athleisure clothing), co-authoring two chapters in the Third Edition of UK Merger Control: Law and Practice, November 2016 and publishing regularly on topical issues relating to UK merger control.
Ben’s experience also includes class actions, competition litigation, abuse-of-dominance allegations, and commercial disputes as well as acting for clients across a range of industries, including financial services, retail, automotive, aviation, transportation, real estate, and telecoms. Clients have also benefited from Ben’s expertise in conducting competition investigations in the areas of credit information, retail banking, cash savings, wholesale insurance, and payday lending. Previously, he was an economist at the New Zealand Treasury.
