Matt returned to AlixPartners in 2022 after serving as the Chief Accountant for the Enforcement Division of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), where he played a crucial role in the Division's enforcement initiatives, focusing on financial accounting, disclosure, and auditing matters.  He is an industry leader in forensic accounting as a seasoned professional specializing in guiding clients through complex financial reporting, regulatory, investigation, compliance, and litigation challenges.

With a diverse background spanning roles as a regulator, forensic accountant, auditor, and accounting expert, Matt has earned a reputation as a trusted advisor to legal counsel, regulatory bodies, corporate management teams, audit committees and boards of directors. He regularly speaks to professional organizations and academic institutions on accounting and regulatory enforcement topics.

Key Engagements:

• As the Chief Accountant of the Enforcement Division at the SEC, Matt played a pivotal role in hundreds of cases spanning financial reporting, asset misappropriation, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) violations, market manipulation, insider trading, and other securities law matters.
• He exercised a significant influence on rulemaking in accounting, auditing, and specific disclosure areas at the SEC while spearheading coordination between the Enforcement Division and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board's inspection and enforcement programs.
• Matt's expertise extends to providing technical accounting guidance, conducting investigations, and offering litigation support across diverse subject matters. This includes financial accounting and reporting, FCPA compliance, anti-corruption issues, disclosure concerns, auditor malpractice, corporate governance, insider trading, market manipulations, False Claims Act litigation, and asset misappropriations.
• Earlier in his career, Matt served as a Senior Enforcement Accountant in the Enforcement Division's Boston regional office, further refining his expertise and contributing significantly to the division's mission.
