AlixPartners adds top competition, policy and regulatory experts to growing European economics practice

LONDON (October 3, 2024) - AlixPartners, the global consulting firm, today announced that it is expanding its economics practice with the addition of two highly respected experts in competition economics, economic policy and regulatory matters. Nicola Mazzarotto and Caitlin Wilkinson join the firm’s London office from KPMG.  

Nicola brings over two decades of experience in competition economics, economic regulation, litigation and economic policy and will play a critical role in expanding the firm’s capabilities across Europe. Previously the Global Head of Economics at KPMG, where he led a team of experts advising on complex competition, regulatory, and macroeconomic issues, Nicola has built a reputation for delivering innovative solutions across high-profile mergers, market inquiries, antitrust cases, and litigation support. His experience spans numerous industries, and he has acted as an expert witness in several competition disputes. 

Previously a Partner at KPMG and an economic adviser at the UK Competition Commission, Caitlin joins AlixPartners with over 15 years of experience in economic analysis. Specialising in competition economics, she brings significant expertise in high-profile UK and European merger inquiries and market investigations to the firm, as well as significant experience in State Aid investigations, commercial litigation claims and regulatory appeals. Caitlin, who is currently on maternity leave, returns to work in August 2025.  

These key appointments form part of the firm’s ongoing strategy to enhance its leading economics practice across Europe and is driven by increasing client demand for expert advisory services in competition enforcement, regulatory advice, and merger control. Over the past three years, our European Economics Consulting Practice has doubled in size. In recognition of the growth, Iona McCall, a partner in the London economics practice, is also being appointed as Co-Head of the EMEA Economics Practice, alongside existing co-head, Matt Hunt.
